[Text on screen] How to change a pad. caring@home.
>>Narrator (female voice over): In this video you will be shown how to change a pad for a person by following a step-by-step process.
To maintain the dignity of the person you are caring for and to help you cope with providing personal cares, there are some things that can help.
- Keep the person covered up as much as possible with a towel or blanket – this will help to keep them warm as well.
- Make sure you tell the person what you are doing before you are doing it so that they are prepared. For example: “Now I am going to undo your pad”
Finally – you can use something to distract you both, for example some music playing in the background.
It is best to have a second carer to help you turn and hold the person. If you do not have a second person, make sure that you have one side of the bed up against a wall so the person cannot fall out.
>>Narrator (female voice over): Get the things you need
- A towel
- The tip sheet
- A pair of disposable gloves
- A towel
- Disposable wipes
- And a clean pad – a tab pad is the easiest type to use if the person is unable to get out of bed.
