>>Narrator (female voice over): In this video you will be shown how to position a person.
Please do not attempt to do this if you have not been shown how by your nurse.
It is essential to have a second carer to help you with this process.

>>Narrator (female voice over): The first step is to get the things you need
- 2 Slide sheets
- Several pillows
- The tip sheet
[Text on screen] 1.Get the things you need:
- 2 Slide sheets
- Several pillows
- Tip sheet
>>Narrator (female voice over): When moving a person in the bed, slide sheets protect the skin of the person being moved and reduce the physical strain on the carers. Put the slide sheets under the person. Start with the person lying flat in the bed and a carer on either side of the bed.
>>Narrator (female voice over): Lift and bend the person’s leg, then gently turn them over onto their side. You will find that the weight of the bent leg will make turning them easier. Make sure that you roll them to the side that is most comfortable for them.
[Text on screen] 2. Lift and bend leg, roll person to the side. Roll to the side that is most comfortable.
>>Narrator (female voice over): Line up the two slide sheets against each other.
[Text on screen] 3.Hold and line up slide sheets.
>>Narrator (female voice over): Once they are lined up, place the slide sheets lengthways next to the person.
[Text on screen] 4. Place slide sheets next to person.
>>Narrator (female voice over): Bunch the slide sheets and tuck half under the person.
[Text on screen] 5. Bunch slide sheets, tuck half under person.
>>Narrator (female voice over): Roll the person gently onto their back. You can see that half of the slide sheet is now under them.
[Text on screen] 6. Roll person onto their back.
>>Narrator (female voice over): One carer can gently support the person, while the other carer pulls the slide sheets out from the other side.
[Text on screen] 7. Support the person, pull slide sheets out from other side.
>>Narrator (female voice over): The slide sheets are now fully under the person.
[Text on screen] 8. Gently lower the person.
>>Narrator (female voice over): The next step is to move the person into the desired position using the top slide sheet. You may want to move them up the bed.
[Text on screen] 9. Use top slide sheet to move person as needed.
>>Narrator (female voice over): Bunch the top slide sheet close to the person’s shoulders. Pull them up the bed by transferring your weight from your front to your back leg. Use the same technique to move them over to one side of the bed.
>>Narrator (female voice over): Once the person has been moved, the slide sheets can be removed. Roll the person to their most comfortable side.
[Text on screen] 10. Bend leg, roll person onto side.
>>Narrator (female voice over): Remove the bottom slide sheet by pulling it under itself, starting from the feet and working towards the head.
[Text on screen] 11. Pull out bottom slide sheet.
>>Narrator (female voice over): Then you can pull out the remaining slide sheet using the same method.
[Text on screen] 12. Pull out remaining slide sheet with same method.
>>Narrator (female voice over): The person can then be positioned in a way that is most comfortable for them.
[Text on screen] 13. Use pillows to put person in comfortable position.
